    Ammonia Refrigeration Systems

I have a system that requires 27 degree glycol. Would I use a 20 degree stuaration suction temperature for sizing and how can I determine the capacity in tons for two existing compressors.

    Re: Ammonia Refrigeration Systems

    Hi Ronnie,

    Welcome to the RE forums.

The use of a specific SET (saturated evaporating temperature) is one of user preference. If you need 27°F glycol you also need to verify where the compressor capacity balances with the evaporator capacity (minus suction line pressure losses, which include valves, fittings, and "regulators if used").

If we looked at the 27°F glycol temperature being provided at a 22°F SET, then we might also allow a 2° temperature loss (converted to equivalent pressure loss for piping and valves, etc.) the SST (saturated suction temperature would be 20°F. That is what you pick the compressors for.

Let's start with this and go from there.
If all else fails, ask for help.
