    Re: checking compressors for wear

Screws every 5,000hrs, measure axial clearance, check shaft seal and alignment, slide movement, position indicator, check or change oil and filter, clean suction filter, motor bearings, capacity control, oil heater.
50,000 oil separator filters, major overhaul.

recips, every 5000, top overhaul, shaft seal and alignment, change oil and filter, loading gear, rings, float on shaft.
10,000 big and small end bearings, mian and thrust beairngs.

manufacturerers guidleines change with every installation due to maintenance and running.
    conditions.

    hope thats some help

    Re: checking compressors for wear

Here's what we do for an M&M compressor based on manufacturer's recommendations and our PSM program.

    Change Oil Charge 10,000 hours
Change Oil Filter Elements 10,000 hours
    Clean Suction Strainer 10,000 hours
    Rebuild Compressor 25,000 hours
Replace Oil Seperator Coalescing Filters 30,000 hours
    Quarterly Pressure Calibration 90 days
    Oil Analysis 180 days
    Grease Motor 270 days
    Annual Temperature Calibration 365 days
    Clean Compressor 365 days
    Vibration Analysis 365 days

I would think any wear would show up in the oil & vibration analysis but with the very frequent rebuilds on these compressors you don't see a whole lot of issues.
