Corrosion of steam condensate line
Hi members,
In absorption chiller, steam condensing temp. in
generator becomes negative and sometimes very low at partial load operation. Matter is how to remove it smoothly because the receiver tank pressure will peak out at the equivalent pressure even if you use a vacuum pump. Trane/York IOM recommend to install a vacuum breaker in the generator steam side. It looks very simple and low-cost solution.
My concern is corrosion of generator and condensate piping of the chiller because steam condensate is possible to cause corrosion w/o much air(oxygen) and it must be worse by this vacuum breaking.
Does anybody have an experience of the vacuum breaking and corrosion ?

Re: Corrosion of steam condensate line
Beppo . You have a very big problem with corrosion in steel pipes, if boiler generated steam the water treatment is not working, if geothermal the strubbers are not working. You need to replace all pipework and sort out treatment and or scrubbers. Not and easy exercise and very expensive repair.

Re: Corrosion of steam condensate line
Magoo, Thank you for the suggestion. I understand how the water treatment is important for boiler steam.
