Due to not having done 15 posts this site won't let me post a URL. so go to Carrier's web site.

From about the late 1970s, Carrier took over Le Compressor Frigorifique (LCF, now the Carrier factory at Montluel in Lyons).

Some 30HR chillers were made in France from that period, however it's probable that in 1974, your chiller was made in the USA.

The name plate should tell you, plus the wiring will be in Yellow cable if its American. (French-made models were wired in red cable).

The reason for all this is that the two model s will be different.

    1. Control schematic wiring differs.
    2. Part numbers will be different - not always interchangeable.
    3. Water flow rates for US models will be in US gallons (NOT the same volume measure as a British Imperial Gallon)

Good luck if you can locate parts, but after 35 years it may mean that you will need to make your own.

I would strongly urge you not to disturb any gaskets on the evaporator tube sheets unless you have no choice and they are shot - they are VERY difficult to replace. Additionally, because the water enters and leaves the evaporator at the top, it is prone to collecting debris in the bottom of the shell. Assume that there is a layer of filth in the base of the evaporator. If you don't get it all out, you will probably have poor evaporating conditions - 30 HRs were well known to flood back for this reason.

On the plus side, the 06E compressor hasn't changed much and they can be rebuilt on site if you are careful.

    Hope this helps.......
