Personally I think every Fridge Engineer should see it!
Because It could happen to any of us!
And as a result of seeing it?
Maybe next time you will get a permit to work and carry out a proper risk assessment?
But for the grace of God.
This could happen to any of us.
Sorry about the poor quality, apparently it was all filmed from a site security camera.
I have uploaded it from the original Real Player format into the more widely used .wmv (Windows Media Player) format.

Yep Al and it is worse now with the synthetic oils!!!

So everyone look and learn!!
Basically if we deem it necessary whenever armaflex and synthetic oils are concerned "we" will have a second engineer there as fire watch.

Ice, only an American would count the Min's and seconds!

I suppose you can do it faster?? You need a different model of chiller then.
Mind you I could name a few candidates.

I like the quick exit from the event.

It does show that you really should have some fire fighting equipment nearby; either the extinguisher that he came back with was empty or too small for the size that the fire reached.

Still he appears unhurt and that's the main thing.

I installed some split units in a sports shop the other year, some of the pipe connections had to be in the store room piled high with their stock. My boss asked why I was using compression fittings not soldered, I`d liked to have had that vid to show `im.

Years ago i set some cobwebs alight in a barn while brazing. The barn was block built to just above where the pipework was and then corrugated sheet, the fire went up behind the sheeting so i ran round to see what was on the other side and found a barn full of straw, i managed to chuck a bucket of water over it before it caught.
I have a fire extinguisher and a bucket of water with me whenever i braze now

i had a scare when working at canary wharf in barclays bank!! 2 of us in a riser with a load of pipes and armaflex,abit caught fire and woosh it was away tried one fire extinguisher and nothing happend luckily we had another and we got it out how many of us take 2 to a site with us??? just so unexpected!!

Similar thing happened a couple of years back with a multi-scroll pack on a supermarket roof. Engineer was repairing cracked discharge line and oil caught fire, lit up the pack insulation. Had signed fire permit and had extinguisher with him, but still New pack required!!!

The Firestarter is now OEM Service Manager (NOT YORK)
And his buddy (the producer)went to site and got it from security and added the music.
The producer's Nickname is spelt backwards - top engineer, now multi millionaire, small world yet again
