    Replace R22 with other gas

How to retrive R22 without releasing it to the atmosphere and what type of gas to replace to enhance cooling effect hence provide energy saving?

    Thanks & regards

Re: Replace R22 with other gas

I must say R407c is not a very good gas, where loosing 10% can cause the systems pressures to surge and the gas becomes separated chemically. There are some new gasses out there that are molecularly bound and can be vapour charged! but which one is the best for R-22 (drop in replacement)?

i have a ton of of the stuff to suck and replace!

For R22 existing systems solution to an direct replacement is using HFC R 427A(FX 100).
    Try this link.

you may want to try a gas handling course
would help prevent you getting a face full of liquid
    and help save the planet

Why would anyone want to replace R22? Recycled R22 will be available as long as 2015, so no hurry, and especially don't use R422 and R417, which already proved to be junk refrigerants.

    Hi NoNickName

In the uk virgin R22 ends this year and like other outlawed refrigerants in the past stocks deplete earlier than the deadline and then the price of recycled goes through the roof

Not necessarily. Retrofitting will cause R22 to be gathered and recycled (which is law requirement). And there are too many plants around with R22 in them.
    No worry. Plenty of R22.

But if you are convinced, why don't you buy some tons of R22 and sell it next year?

    Because stockpiling is illegal?

Correct me if im wrong, but i dont think you are forced to remove the gas from a working unit. only when its lost it charge that you can't put R22 back in?

or have i had been told a porky?

    That is correct WOMBAT

Virgin R22 is legal to use until 31-12-2009 - if available

Recycled R22 is legal to use untill 31-12-2014

From 01-01-2015 all R22 units that are found to be leaking, must have refrigerant removed and sent for disposal and the unit must be retrofitted or replaced.

Should mean plenty of work for us fridgies over the next few years

and all EU countries are working to the same EU Rules

So, no touch R22 units. The only good reason for that is to correct and remove leakages.

    my understanding:

From 31st December 2009 it will be illegal to use virgin R22 refrigerant for service or maintenance of air conditioning systems. Stockpiling of virgin R22 will also be illegal

How many kgs will be stockpiling? If it is in a recovery bottle and therefore not virgin 22 that will be ok?? You could also keep a small condensing unit with say a, 10kg receiver just in case. With no leaks of course. This is not meant to be funny or disrespectful just thought provoking. After all we can use recycled 22 untill 2014. And we a going to be ripped of big time by the refrigerant manufacturers in the meantime!

    What about R-422D?

Does anybody have experience on retrofitting from R-22 to R-422D??

If u have to choose between R-422 and R-407 for replacing r-22??

Re: Replace R22 with other gas

YOu can reuse recycled/regenerated r-22 until end of 2014.
You can recover and recycle on site with a Spanish system. So there is no need to buy regenerated one at the price it is now(crazy), as you can have it for free from the existing installations.

Check here interesting info about retrofits and leakages control, regarding European Regulations 1005/2009 and 842/2006 respectively.

    Hope it will help you.
