    Alchemist Cascade

The name is taken an Australian psychedelic metal band but also part of my user name.

I'm only playing with parts currently as this is a project for them evenings when i want to tinker with it. Plus it's winter!

Just had my compresser powdercoated gloss white. I need to sort out 4 new feet as missing 4 for one of them and the electricals still.

    Specs on the compressers are
Small horizontal rotary compresor Mitsubishi Electric Approx. 1/4hp
Currently have a 12 plate HX and MDF HX box to allow for 45mm all round insualtion.

    Here's some photos!

As i find parts cheap or on offer i'll add more to it all. Plan is too make this as small as possible and as powerfull as i can with whats here but pimping it as much as i can.

HX box is being covered in carbon fiber shortly as and when i find the time too. Just a basic twill weave pattern.

think for such a tiny project you best use home fabricated coaxial heat exchangers.

Just hope that the process didn't damage the compressor internals too much

    Why? Plate HX is smaller

small coaxial HX have less net volume which reduces the systems charge.

Need to mask it all off though. Here is a pimped NL11F i did for my Single Stage.

    Powdercoated by Marcus
    Custom braid
    Braided start/run cap
    Braid cap wires
    HD anit vibe feet
    Polished cap mount
Tapd mount holes to M4 and used stainless steel bolts

    New DATA sticker

I also checker the Ohms resitance to make sure it's still alive aftre being in the over @ 210c. R/C 8.5 & S/C 14.6 Ohms. Same as before so a PASS!

I've also ran it and it worked fine! I like pimped items!

Plate HX is still smaller in size and looks much nicer though!

Very good, I look in at benchtec from time to time and see the cascade there, I will certainly be watching progress all very interesting!!

Been meaning to have a crack at cascade cooler myself for sometime but just havn't managed to lift tools in anger yet.

    Anyhow, enjoy the build

    Re: Alchemist Cascade

Plat HXs in this aplication been knowen to form interplate leaks and all so to form micro ruptures. Not to mention for the unusual small duty most are ill fited tot he aplication, same dificulty in premade coaxial HX's is the unusualy small duty we have in custom aplications.

A small home made HX how ever seems rather well aplied in this situation ensuring eas of system charging.

Looks mean nothing if it doesn't work well & efficiently! besides by the looks of it you'd have no difficulty in pimping the home made Hx lol.

Personaly I like all flate black, look at my kit you think you've gon blind lol

    I love it!
    Absolutely love it!
However Xeon is correct, although plate heat exchangers are amazingly useful, they are much more prone to leaks and problems then a nice counter spun tube in tube copper heat exchanger, or a simple tube in tube. Plus a tube in tube can actually be easier and "pimped" easier.
I like the compressors though, have a good source on those? Never worked with a horizontal rotary before.

And the heat exchanger box looks nice too, but again, could coil some 3/16 in 3/8 tubing and coil it up into an even smaller box than that no problem.

As for the green compressor and condenser, very nicely done, should look good all put together. My main problem lately is sourcing condensers of a smaller size, when I need something larger I found a few from an ebay source, $50 and not bad, however what you have looks like it has a 120 or 140mm fan on it? That would be ideal!
