Swaging/expanding kit
Hi,
Im looking for a decent swaging kit,
Ive had the block and yoke type, which takes too much effort and sometimes gets stuck,
and I've also got a tube expander, but without heating, it cracks 3/8'',1/4'' pipe,
Any suggestions?
Cheers

Re: Swaging/expanding kit
Put some oil on the screw thread of your yoke assembly.
As for your expander, they ain't much good on the smaller pipes, especially with cheap copper. All you can do is try using it with the expander head not screwed on properly, expand it a bit and wind the head on a bit further each time until it is fully on. Without doing this, my expander will totally destroy most 3/8 pipes.
Don't forget to de-burr the pipes properly first.
If all else fails use a block and punch like we used to in the old days, its often quicker.

Re: Swaging/expanding kit
I've always used a regular swage kit and never had any of those problems. But I'd really like to have one of these kits. I'm just to cheap.

Re: Swaging/expanding kit
thanks for the replys,
All i use is coils, but its hard to get some pipe runs in one go
the only way ive found of swaging small pipe with the tube expanders is to heat the copper while in use.
looks like its back to couplers
