    f-gas exam questions

Does someone have sample questions which are questioned on the f-gas exams?

    By f-gas exams?
Do you mean the safe handling certification
    Or our trade exams?
If it is the f-gas ones then it becomes irrelevant as it's an open book exam!
    Well the C.I.T.B one is.
The City & Guilds one is harder as it does require some previous knowledge of "Fridge Work"

    Re: f-gas exam questions

    To comply with EN378 Grizzly
But perhaps some samples of both then.
What do they ask in th CITB? Only questions regarding safe gas handling or also technical questions as 'what happens with the SH and SC when there's a leak?'

We have to go to the central exam commission next Monday in Brussels (2 of us against 14 others who made all the original 200 questions) to argue and ventilate our huge frustrations about the actual exams.
'When was the Kyoto protocol voted?' is one of them. This is not a relevant question at all, at least not for me.

    Thanks

I purposely did not reply in the hope some of our more learned members would answer.

    Re: f-gas exam questions

There are a few technical refrigeration questions but also quite a few on gwp Of certain refrigerants and pressure testing. I did an on line exam hence I can not remember the exact questions but some of which I thought were totaly pointless. 40 questions time allowed 80 mins, but since its closed book you either know the answer or you don`t so it only took about 15 -20 mins .

    Re: f-gas exam questions

Were there multiple-choice or open answers?
Can you remember some of the questions concerning the practical side of our job and more about teh theoretical part (not law) like log p/h charts?
Is this database somewhere available? The database in Belgium can be downloaded for free.

    Re: f-gas exam questions

It was multi choice 4 options per question there were a coulpe on pressure enthalpy charts such as where would you find super heated refrigerant or where on a system you would expect to find a specific point that were marked on a chart in the question. Nothing too technical. I doubt the question bank is available but let us know if you find one

    Re: f-gas exam questions

    Hi all,

just had a look at the sample questions provided by City and Guilds. Have a look at this one,

    Reference 08.01
For every one degree Celsius that the evaporating temperature is increased, cooling capacity
    a) increases by 3% and energy use increases by 3%
    b) increases by 3% and energy use decreases by 3%
    c) decreases by 3% and energy use increases by 3%
    d) decreases by 3% and energy use decreases by 3%.
Their model answer for this sample question is (b)

    Who agrees?

    Re: f-gas exam questions

It depends how you look at it, we had a similar question in Belgium and had to change it.
If you increase evaporating temperature, then cooling capacity of the compressor decreases but cooling capacity of evaporator increases due to a bigger DT.
The question is not complete enough in my opinion.
    Who agrees?

Exactly , It depends on the situation the question is refering to You can bet there are several other questions that are similarly invalid

    Re: f-gas exam questions

Erm, increase in evap temp means a reduction in evaporator cooling capacity (obviously!)

Increase in evap temp means an increase in compressor cooling capacity - if evap is big enough!

If this is the type of questions asked I think I need to do some reading up. How are others preparing for this?

My boss says we are not going to do the course until we have to.

    Re: f-gas exam questions

i am in the process of booking my f gas 2079 course, 1 days practical and theory and an online exam. i would welcome any 'heads up' on questions and answers that other engineers have already done. the exam is on the 11th march and i am quite nervous about failing as it is imperitive to my business that i pass and obtain my refcom number. any help would be greatfully recieved.

are there any links to sites whereby questions example questions can be seen or even a mock exam can be taken.

me thinks i may have to some reading up.....again.

    thanks, rob.

    Re: f-gas exam questions

Did mine last September, the companies running the courses and exams don't want you to fail so they do good preparatory work so you are ready for the exam.
Tip1.when you do the 45 (i think) multiple choice questions you have the course book which has all the relevant technical stuff in which you can consult.
2 Keep a list of all the answers ie a b c or d and then if you get any wrong you know what your origional answer was, they give you a clean answer sheet for you to correct mistakes on.
I got two wrong and couldn't beleive the stupid answers I went with first time.
Gen up on the mollier diagrams before and it will be easy.
    Practical is no problem.

Simps it sounds like you did the CITB version.

The C&G one is closed book on a computer.

You will never get the same question in the same order and then the answers change places as well.

So taking notes in a C&G exams is pointless.

    Re: f-gas exam questions

    Hi Guys,
Passed my F-Gas yesterday did a 2 day C & G course, day 1 was spent doing the practical, day 2 the exam, could have been condensed into 1 day. i wouldn't say it was difficult, however you will need to swat up on GWP of refrigerants, 22, 134a, 407c, 404a, 410a. pressure enthalpy diagrams is a must, only conditions around the cycle, not really plotting out systems or working out COP. i did get about 4 of the sample questions on the C & G website. working out the percentages i think i got about 5 wrong out of 40,so i'm happy. the practical was pretty straight forward reclaim gas, replace a length of pipe, pressure test in accordance with BSEN 378, regas and make any adjustments necessary, the whole test is pretty technical and straight forward and if you are competant you should have no problems passing. hope this helps.

Yes i did, there were ten of us sitting it and we all got different questions,as I said you get a second chance,if you fail that there is an interview during which they seek to ensure you have the underpinning knowledge.
One guy who was working for a major company did struggle and went right through the process, very good on the practical he got there in the end though.
Pretty hot(exscuse the punn) on the brazing test.
    Did mine with Business edge.

I was told while doing my city and guilds this week that anyone who does not have the new qualification after June is not legally allowed to work on a system.
The city and guilds online exam is a closed book exam.
