    New blends: whirlwind of doom

With a little bit more than 1 year to go, customers are waking up from their 10-years long sleep and asking for support.
Virgin R22 is ending on 31/12/2009 and no more will be sold in the EU and many other countries of the world.
    What's next?
Two big companies (ark*** and dup***) which are in charge of the production of great part of R22 in the world, are now offering drop-in replacement refrigerants, to avoid any fall of their turn-over.
Let's see some of their claims:

Ark***: "ForaneŽ R427A (aka FX100) requires one oil draining and its replacement by a POE lubricant".
Wow, so what's the point, then? Can't I just switch to R407c, which is known since the dawn of time and with ample availability of components?

DuP***: "it has been observed [...] that shrinkage of the original seal may occur after conversion, causing refrigerant leakage".
Good. Now, why don't we just avoid R22 leakages and prevent any need to top it up, instead of causing more leakages?

DuP***: "Isceon MO29 will work successfully with the existing mineral oil in most systems".
What about the other system, not included in "most"? And being a marketing flyer, should I read "most" as in "some"?

Basically the morons are selling a compound which is not a drop-in replacement and cause the system to leak more, so more refrigerant is needed to top it up.

Guys, please, do not drop anything in in place of R22. Just repair the leaks before 31/12/2009 and leave them go.

    cheers.

p.s. Names are covered to protect the innoc...uhm... me.

p.p.s claims are copied and pasted from the company's flyers available on respective websites.

    Quote from ACR News.....

DUPONT Refrigerants has granted global rights to Honeywell to market R-422D refrigerant, a R22 replacement.

The new agreement is in anticipation of the expected surge in market demand, and field support, for R-422D refrigerant, following the ban of virgin HCFC R22 on January 1, 2010.

R-422D is currently sold by DuPont under the trademark ISCEON MO29.

By broadening the distribution network for this retrofit solution, DuPont says it will be able to commit greater resources to helping customers meet the R-22 phase-out deadline and lead the transition away from ozone-depleting substances.

No Icecube, you're not getting the big picture here! When the chlorine was taken out of the environment to make R22 it was natural chlorine:- totally environmentally friendly. Now that it's been running through a refrigeration systems it's not the same chlorine - it's been turned into "end of the world by slow death chlorine".

It can't be because of a patent running out. I mean next you're going to tell me that Concord wasn't allowed to land in New York any more because it was competing too well against Boeing for high paying customers!

Once again the refrigerant manufacturers lie to us just as they did with the good old R-12.

Its just money behind it, not any environmental damage to our precious star.

If it wasn't the money, we wouldn't hear a sound.

Note the date of patent expire and it is as clear as the sun in the sky!!
