well lets get something started here and see if we have an interest first.
I would like to see how many people we can get to support this.

What would be the factors that would determine if one engineer was better than another?

What I suggested before was that, Managers and fellow workmates would put forward an engineer.
To back the sponsorship I suggested that it should be accompanied by some sort of resume or history of work carried out.
the Judges for the Engineer of the Month would be the RE Moderators.
If we get enough people coming forward, I am sure I could get a good prize put together to make it worth while.

Well, as the very nature of a forum is to discuss things I think that closing it would not be beneficial
Its amazing what comes out of discussion, be it harmonious or otherwise

I can see the benefits of the thread but I fail to grasp how we can put forward the relevant points that would allow judgement (by the moderators) as to who qualifies for the title.
It has been said that fellow engineers should put forward collegues for consideration, but what do we say? he strangled a piece of 3/4 soft coiled pipe really well? he made the outdoor unit really shine during the routine service? do you get what I'm saying - what sort of outstanding qualities does the person have to have, over and above his peers?.
Also, are we "hands on" directors allowed to enter?

Like I have said before, its a forum. Lets discuss it and see what we all come up with
After all, its our forum and we make the rules (when I say we, I mean the members of this forum)

One way they do it on another web site I belong to is the ability of the posters to give someone else on the same post a star. the person with the most stars is voted TipMaster of the Week. if you are interested go to http://www.eng-tips.com/threadhome.cfm?tp=1

Why not just have a thread of the month then if people are against an employee of the month.
This should be easier to decide, just look at the amount of replies or the diversity of the reactions to if. Looks like Marc could do well if judging peoples reactions to his posts.
