    Question Carrier container problem

hi guys, i have a freezer container model 69NT40-464-5. The Current limiting transformer has burnt out. Can i bypass this transformer or is it a necessity. The container is being used at a supermarket with a steady 3phase 380V supply.

Oh my, can you even get parts for that thing any more ?

The only way that I know to run without a current trans would be in 'emergency mode'.

Here's a link to the manual (if ya don't already).

This transformer is giving the control 24AC voltage,
    You have to replace it.

I don't believe he's talking about the control transformer.

Dont you think that current limiting something has function to limit current to extent that other parts are not damaged.

Then again, it may run just fine without it.
I don't believe this unit uses the trans except during the current limiting function.

    I'd try and see.

No, its not a "unit protection" type of circuit/function.
See page 1-13, section 'I' of the above manual.

    Re: Carrier container problem

The current limiting transformer sensors the current drawn on one of the phases so it can work in conjuction with the timing and current board to limit overall current draw, when operating outside optimum conditions. Yes you can operate with out it, if my memory serves me right. Hope this helps

    Re: Carrier container problem

I will first try & get the original spare & stick it in.Although we can't seem to find anyone in South Africa who can supply this thing. Everybody keeps refering me to somebody else, Carrier themselves cant seem to find 1, & the most amazing thing is that there are hundreds of these things around being used at supermarkets etc.
Failing that i will try & bypass it & hope the the thing doesnt trip again.
Can i chuck out all the electronics & wire it as a normal freezer. Will this work?

    Hi Shamel
The best way to repair a 69NT 40 unit if it is now used as a static unitis to replace the existing controller and boards with an Elliwell controler and 24 v to 12 v transformer parts cost less than £100 in UK and although it sounds drastic it can be done in 3 hours If you require some simple intructions I will send you them.

    Hi Shamel
I agree with dvbeaumont, rewire and use parts available to you.Sooner or later a temp control board or power supply board will fail, and being a freezer you will have limited time to repair.Parts for these boxes are hard to source and expensive, Keep it simple.

    Actually, I'm kind of jealous.

Gutting the wiring in that thing and installing a bare bones freeze only control system sounds like fun project.

    Re: Carrier container problem

If that current limiting transformer is really transformer (from what i read in manual, it appears it is), it could be rewinded.
