    because it contains about 80% R-134a, why not use R-134a?

    Most of the R12 replacements are predominately R134a, but allow the use of mineral oil. Converting a R12 system to pure R134a requires removing all the mineral oil and doing a thorough clean since the POE oil required for R134a is great at dislodging any buildup. Using a blend that will transport the existing mineral oil is a lot cheaper and easier.
