Refrigeration Efficiency & Nanotechnology
Something to look forward to perhaps?

NIST researcher Mark Kedzierski found that dispersing sufficient amounts of copper oxide particles 30 nanometers in diameter in a common polyester lubricant and combining it with the refrigerant R134a improved heat transfer by 50 to 275 percent. "We were astounded," he said in a NIST news release.

Re: Refrigeration Efficiency & Nanotechnology
Thank you Brian for interesting post,
I hope that will be more than a "work" and we will be able soon to buy those copper oxide particles and use them but history shows that after a few more experiments, there are some problems.....

Re: Refrigeration Efficiency & Nanotechnology
In the chiller heat transfer from liquid to boiling refrigerant. Heat transfer coefficient of boiling refrigerant is higher than heat transfer coefficient of the liquid. Improving high coefficient will have a little impact on total heat transfer coefficient. So very little energy can be saved. Surprisingly, people look on the "moon" for energy savings. However, a lot of energy can be saved on the "earth" without huge investment.
