    Hotpoint fridge not cold anymore.

    Hi there,

I have a Hotpoint fridge freezer (sorry I don't have the model handy) that I bought about 4 years ago and a few days ago the fridge bit started not being cold anymore. It isn't getting warm but it's not cold.

On somebody's advice at work I tried to look for the thermostat but it must be electronic because there isn't a dial inside the fridge.

Hotpoint wants £100 to come and have a look at it but I though I'll ask if this is something I can look at myself.

The freezer part is working absolutely fine.

    Any idea??

    Thanks

Take the plug out, empty the fridge and freezer, open the doors and let it defrost for a few hours.

Most probably, the fan stuck by ice.

Thanks for that but it's one that you don't need to defrost. Does that make a difference (I am showing my inexistant knowledge about fridge freezer there!!)

You are right, its a non frost but now you need to do it manually, they tend to get full of ice once in while....

Leaving these frost free to defrost for a couple of hours is not enough you need to leave them off for at least 48 hrs, reason being the drain hole could be blocked up with a plug of ice and because its well insulated takes a long time for it to melt.dry the insides well with a towel cloth before swiching back on. mines a mistral plus and i do this about once a year depending if the kids have shut the door properly or theyve put in wet pakets etc the moisture builds up on the coils and blocks the airflow through it.

I've never seen a hotpoint refrigerator. By the amount of posts here about them, I don't want too.
They seem more unreliable than a samsung, and I never thought I'd live long enough to see another refrigerator that plays up more than samsung!
My hoover is 10 yrs old, my neighbour just gave me his working 38 y/o fridge. Frigidaire made by General Motors Holden, one of the first of the squarish shaped ones, original everything in it.

No such thing as "frost free" all they are is frost hidden. Now they have a defrost cycle, and to do it they use an electrical timer and a heater, two things that have the majic ability to sod off on you.

By leaving it unpluged for a day or so will let you know ruffely just what has died on you, or at the verry least narrow it down to one system out of the disgusting levels of systems they crammed into the thing!

    Good luck!

The fridge takes cold air from the freezer compartment by two ducts. A motorized flap (above the fridge light hidden behind the plastic regulates the flow of cold air) to maintain the set temp in the fridge. The problem is that one of the ducts between the freezer compartment and the fridge gets blocked by ice and the cold air doesnt flow upto the fridge. The solution is to defrost the (frost free!) fridge freezer. A drip tray at the rear of the fridge will probably overflow (maybe 3 - 4 pints) so dont be alarmed if the floor gets a bit damp!

I have similar problem. But a smell has built up in the fridge. Someone suggested cleaning drip tray. Where can I find this? Cannot access rear of fridge as kitchen is integrated. Thanks.
