Proposed Revision of UK Refrigerant Laws

In the UK we are all familiar with the EU ODS Regulations and the more recent F Gas Regulations. These two pieces of European law have resulted in the two UK Statutory Instruments (SIs) that describe and outline the offences and penalties, particularly with respect to refrigerant handling qualifications and the need for regular leakage checks of equipment.
With the need for a demonstration of competence for both individuals and companies operating in this field, there have been plenty of posts over the recent couple of years on these issues.

The UK govt is now consulting on updated legislation that will take into account changes in the training and certification requirements brought in by the F Gas Regs and attempt at the same time to align the legislation for both F Gas and ODS. This is due to come out next year, in 2009.

The existing SIs will be repealed at that time.

As they are required to do, they have gone out to consultation with an end date of October 3rd, 2008. This allows us to see what is likely to be in the new regulations and if we wish to, comment or suggest changes.
