compressor changeout question
I have an old (been in my family45yr) Coca Cola chest type cooler using F12 .The compressor is bad. Can I use a like size compressor from a window air conditioner that uses F22 as a replacement? I have a few 12oz cans of F12 for the recharge.
Thanks Mike

Re: compressor changeout question
It's hard to tell withouth models but the general answer is no, you cannot.
The displacement/motor power relation is lower for R22 than R12.
Though this relation is also different for R134a compressors, it is much closer to R12 than an R22 compressor you should try find a similar R134a compressor but be careful the oil can be used with R12 or change it to mineral oil like 3GS.
This does not mean it won't work if you replace with the R22 compressor but if you want to anticipate problems you should give information on compressor models.
