Charging 410a systems
I know when charging a 410 system you have to add the charge as a liquid into the suction side. I purchased a Kwik Charge to aid me in this. My question is does the Bottle of 410 have to be inverted (upside down) ?

Re: Charging 410a systems
most refrigerant cylinders have to be inverted to charge as a liquid. If it is a recovery cylinder then it has a liquid service port. Be sure that if using recovered refrigerant that it does not contain non-condensables.

Re: Charging 410a systems
Most R410a cylinders have a pick-up tube (syphon) so you don't need to inverted it (upside down) depending on the cylinder type. Be sure that the cylinder have a syphon then proceed without inverting, else= invert the cylinder(upside down).
There are some good informations about this subject in the attachments.Last edited by 2007eng; 05-07-2008 at 02:06 PM.

Re: Charging 410a systems
If charging as a liquid i always turn the cylinder upside down. I was told that when the bottle is the correct way the dip tube doesn't go all the way down to the bottom so when there isn't much left in your bottle and you think your chaging as a liquid, you could actually be charging as a vapour. For this reson if you turn the bottle upside down you know you will have liquid for sure.

Re: Charging 410a systems
Most bottles we have only have 1 valve, so you can't choose if you want to invert it or not.
As others said, it depends on the type of the cylinder. It's better to keep your mouth shut and give the impression that you're stupid than to open it and remove all doubt.
