looking for a book *Friction loss for pIpe*

    hello..
i just looking for a book that shows Friction loss for Piping. now i m designing for CHWP but the pipe i designed is too big (1200mm). so i can't find the friction loss for such big pipe.
so please share the information for me.

    thanks in advance.

It sounds like you are using friction loss tables. Now you have to calculate the friction losses. Look on Google for information about the Moody diagram and the Darcy-Weisbach equation. And, you will need to find the surface roughness of the pipe you are using.

The process goes something like this:
    1. Find the fluid velocity in the pipe
    2. Determine the Reynolds number
    3. Find the friction factor from the Moody diagram
    4. Do the calculations for the Darcy-Weisbach equation to find the friction loss
And check your units very carefully and you are done!

Follow US_Iceman's recomendations, they are better than a book, but if you want to check for yourself a good summry is in ASHRAE Fundamental's.

Don't tell anyone but if you look enough you'll find it here.

I put the formula into a spreadsheet once. I'll have a look on my old computer.

Mind you at 1200mm diameter that sure is some system that you are attempting

Bruce Wernick wrote a paper entitled Pressure Drop in large bore pipe systems. That was published in the November 2004 issue of African Heating & Cooling. He uses the D’Arcy-Weisbach equation, with the Moody diagram to deal with the friction factor in conjunction with Colebrooks equation to find some sort of relationship between the variables. And then adapts the Hazen-Williams equation. He wrote the paper to deal with nominal pipe sizes up to 1700mm. I believe ASHRAE were going to publish the paper as well.

Thumbs up Re: looking for a book *Friction loss for pIpe*

Thanks BigJon. I now have a copy printed out.

Thanks BigJon. I knew it was somewhere but was not sure where.
