    Help...Please

A customer has asked if I can answer the following question.
How much energy is required to heat 1Kg of steel from 20.c to 200.c

I don't know where to start looking.

    any help appreciated.

    you have to calculate

First find out what kind of steel are you talking about. This is vital.

A good place to start is always here:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maraging_steel

    Then ask the masters: ASHRAE Fundamentals 2005 page 39.4 for Steel(Mild): should be 500 J/kg/K x 1 kg x 180 K = 90 kJ

It's always hard to argue aggainst the masters!

Yes we are in the cooling business. I manufactured a cooling system for a spot welder The company makes a light weight pie tray. ( Multiple trays on a chassis ) He wanted to show prospective customers the energy savings that could be made by using his product.
