Question New; looking for process to build ice block factory in Third World

    Hello,
I discovered your forum by Google, when there doesn't seem to be any info out there on getting started (as an American citizen) to build an ice block factory in an impoverished area of the world (Cambodia, where I was born) to provide ice so they can safely store food, etc. I am in industrial maintenance now but I have been a carpenter, been to AC-Frig school & beyond, and been in steel construction. Hoping to find someone with info about doing this in any Third-World area (should present the same challenges)...
    Hello, anybody out there???

    Hello Shuy,

I believe I have a lot of info on how to do it in "Third World Area"

Also, your steel construction and carpentry experience will come in handy for block ice plant construction.

    First you have to decide:

    - size of ice block in kgs you want to have.
    - how many blocks per day.

We can now decide the freezing tank size & refrigeration equipment/components needed.

Here in southern Phils., i suggest Ammonia system for 15 Ton of Ice a Day and larger.

For 5 Ton of Ice a day, R22 is a lot cheaper.

When you have decided on the above, you can send me a PM.

    Regards,

in stead of blocks,is it not better to produce ice slices, like the use for fish ??
its faster in production, and easier to handle.
the plant cost is cheaper to...

    just some idea's.

Thank you both/all; these blocks are for rural (no electricity) "ice boxes" similar to the ones used in America before electricity, and are also made mobile by placing several in a cart. They keep foods fresh for families, parties and get-togethers. The people use boxes with rice-husk insulation to hold the ice. This is in Southeast Asia, so I would have to buy parts/machines near enough to make shipment feasible.

I understand, you're also considering this method for the storage of block ice?
    - you may be surprised that this is being practiced even in places with electricity.

Why not consider shipping a complete mini ice plant with generating set?
You can definitely find this in a lot of ASEAN member country.

You may just need to construct a shed, rail & hoist and ice storage room before you run your ice plant.
