    A/c Water Chiller

    Hi,
im new to water chiller for aircon application, and i have some question,
a.on a close system which i assume since there is no expansion tank when we fill it up with water do we
need to add chemical or neutralizer?
b.what is the avarage flow rate of water?
c.if the system is running ,do we need to add water in the future?
    please,help is greatly appreciated.

    Hi Abet,

    Welcome to RE!

a.on a close system which i assume since there is no expansion tank when we fill it up with water do we
need to add chemical or neutralizer?
    - it depends on the quality of water you are going to chill: TDS, hardness......etc.

b.what is the avarage flow rate of water?
-What type of evaporator you are going to use; S&T, PHE....?
c.if the system is running ,do we need to add water in the future?
    - YES. this depends on the type of system you designed. Mostly, they install buffer tanks with level controls that if the level is below limit, it automatically refills the media

    A. (a) There must be an expansion vessel, how would the system otherwise cope with expansion/retraction of the water as it changes temperature?
    A. (b) Chemicals... Depending on the working temperature of the chiller, Glycol will be required (also remember to check the saturated temp of the refrigerant in the evaporator). Inhibitor to prevent rust and slime build-up is always a good idea.

    B. Depends on the duty of your chiller, see specification by manufacturer.

    C. Shouldn't but probably will have to at some point.

Pressure? 1 bar = 10 metres of water column. Just ensure that your installation at all points is under positive pressure. (Remember, if the pumpset is at the highest point of the system, the pressure going in to the pump(s) will be lower than the flow pressure but still needs to be positive)

    Exclamation Re: A/c Water Chiller

watch your systems handbook before you put in glycol. not all glycol is safe.

you can damage the pumps or heatexchanger.
see at whitch temp it will work, and calculate the amound of glycol.
also glycol will help to get better working temps

    read the installation manual first,

    ice cube,
many thanks ,since ours is a tropical country ,we do not use glycol on water chiller a/c application.
