Risk in high compressor oil level?
I'm running a 752 ton York OTS4G centrifugal chiller with R-12. We got the high oil level light/alarm in last night after the unit had been in service ~20 hours. It had been run previously for a post-maintenance test following maintenance (that required oil drain and refrigerant transfer) with no high oil level light/ alarm coming in, and it ran for at least 3 hours that run. Two questions:
- what is the danger in running a compressor with too much oil, or at least enough oil that the high level light/ alarm comes in? Does it pose some (immediate) threat to the operation of the machine?
- why would it come in so long after startup? wouldn't it come in initially?
Any and all help is greatly appreciated!
