    Frick RWB II 270

I have a new customer who has a frick RWB II 270 with a TDSH 233 screw compressor. According to the log book the compressor has done 70,000hrs with regular oil / oil filter changes. There has been no vibration analysis over the years and the compressor has never been overhauled. What is the average hrs run before bearing replacement and would it be better to send the compressor away for an overhaul / reman replacement rather than overhaul on site.(Recommended reman co in the UK)

    Willlie (is that spelt correctly?)
It's a BITCH when "you" are tasked with looking after new equipment, especially if you don't have the relevant info.
So just to help please refer to the attached pdf.
Simply put after 25,000 hrs or there abouts an inspection is recommended.

    Thanks Grizzly
Can an overhaul be done on site or would we be better sending it to a specialist ?
It would be the first one I would have stripped.

Not Recommended willlie. Especially as you have not got the relevant tools!

I suspect that you then may get referred to Sabroe Birmingham.

PS Why do you feel it needs a overhaul?

    Hello Willie,

Grizzly is absolutely right about the question if you have a doubt about the overhaul.

Normally Fricks have automatic vibration measurements as an option so it's probably not installed a you say.

However the Fricks can run about 50.000 to 60.000 without an overhaul.
Try to do vabration analyses yourself and see what the outcome is.

I suggest if overhaul is needed send it to a workshop as Grizzly stated.
There is also a remplace programm from which you get an overhauled compressor from JCI and you return the old one so the stand still time can be brought to a minimum.

The longer you wait to overhaul the machine, the higher the probability of needing machine work. Under good conditions the big Fricks will run a long time. Always remove the pot. rod first thing; and don't try it yourself unless you know the 'pogo stick method'. Seriously though, that spring is a killer.

When in doubt swap it out. Really if you have not taken a TDSH apart b4 do a swap out it will be safer and you stress level will be MUCH lower

The vast majority of TDSH's that we run here in Alberta are used as a gas booster. Historically they have been given a life span of 30,000 hours. However, more and more of my clients are now relying on regularly scheduled vibration analysis to push this longer. It can be done with the right instrumentation and knowledge. Especially with a lot of hours, I always recommend that the overhaul go to a shop, better control, record keeping and cleaner environment.
