    Heat Pump Issues!!!

    Hello everybody

I'm having an issue with a Climate Master Heat pump on a new installation. The unit runs in cooling for about 20 mins then the system pumps down with out hitting setpoint, a few times it ran for about 2hrs or more. The system runs fine in heating. Could it be crap in the reversing valve??? I've recovered the gas and evacuated the system down to 250 microns, scaled in fresh R-410a and its still acting the same.

Please help. Climate master is not helping at all!!!

You say the unit 'pumps down', is this a gradual process or does it happen quite quickly?

Is there a non-return valve that is sticking in the cooling mode that isn't letting the gas by?

It pumps down really quick like in a matter of seconds. And the only valve in the refrigeration circuit is the txv and the 3 way valve which I have going to straight power, bypassing the relay just to make sure there wasen't a problem with the printed circuit board (Which I've also had problems with), or a power issue.

    Re: Heat Pump Issues!!!

There will probably be two non-return valves in the system, one at the evaporator and one at the condenser.

It is possible that one of them is sticking and blocking the flow.

They may only look like a larger section of pipe not necessarily a 'valve'.

edit: Sorry Brian, forgot to ask, which model is it?
Also, having had a quick look at the data on the Climate Master website it seems that they use a reversible expansion valve so my comments could be rubbish.....

    I agree with Brian..

If it has a TEV it will have one way valves around it so the refrigerant can flow in the other direction.
If it has a valve befor the evap what restricts the pressure to the cond on heat mode because if it is another valve that will have one way valve as well.
The only othe option is a capilary but again that requires a bypass dependant on flow direction.

    Thanks taz.

The model # is TRM24 it's part of the Tranquility series. And yes the unit has a reversible expansion valve. Thats y I'm puzzled on why it runs in Heating perfectly fine but in cooling it pumps down. So far with these units I'm not impressed at all. We installed 527 of these units and we had to change all of the evaporator thermistors because all the units were going out on low air coil temp, the factory said it was a bad batch. A several LOCKed compressors, a few boards, a whole lot of factory leaks in the water and the refrigeration lines. It's been really frustrating.

I really appreciate the help and info. Thanks

First check Reversing valve by measuring temperature difference at his pipes and then check filter-dryer also with temperature difference test. If OK, than could be reversible TXV.
