This forum is a open discussion board.
Does anyone really believe this? I am starting to have my doubts!

Re: This forum is a open discussion board.
I enjoy this site very much, but if you try to have a little fun with it or interject thoughts that do not agree with some of the moderators they give infractions for promoting a certain product, delete posts and so on...but if a moderator wants to endorse something its fine and dandy. My rant is over, I usually don't have a lot to say, I just wanted to see what everyone else's opinion is.

I also view and contribute to this site with great pleasure and have been enlightened on many occasions and hopefully enlightened a few people myself, and have never found it to be too particular ruling with the contents, ok I’ve had a few comments made after I posted something in good humour, but I put that down to a worldwide members base using the site, and we don’t always share the same sense of humour, I think and have read that where problems occur is with postings made about pacific people or companies and the thread soon becomes a “air your dirty lining in public” slanging match as opposed to a discussion
Discussion
–noun
an act or instance of discussing; consideration or examination by argument, comment, etc., esp. to explore solutions; informal debate.
At what point do we the members crossed the above? Should we in the trenches be the first to know about a companies not paying there bills?
I didnt really answer much there I know just wanted my 5p worth

nh3wizard.
I have enjoyed a lot of your posts and sometimes not agreed with others.
Sadly as they say R.H.I.P. (RANK HAS IT'S PRIVILEGES).
I sometimes get despondent myself and think why am I bothering.
Walk away and come back when you are ready.
Alternatively have a bitch and we can all join in.
That's if you slip under the radar!!!!!!
Keep up the good work your input ( in fact everyones input) is appreciated.
I hope this does not sound to condescending as I sometimes feel the same, But not at the moment>

Re: This forum is a open discussion board.
Sometimes you can find yourself between two people who don't see eye to eye and they can respond to you as if you are the one who's annoyed them.
I find it helpful to remember that others opinion of me, be it good or bad doesn't change who i actually am at all, its just all due to their perception of me or the situation which could be right or wrong.

You know, we are refrigeration engineers here, and we are not famous as good jokers. If someone tels a joke, we immediately start troubleshot that joke and consequence is that joker and his hidden taught has been immediately disclosed.

Re: This forum is a open discussion board.
Great to see some good spirit among friends here. The problem with forums is that even with these green bogey looking smilies, you can not write an expression.
This is why when someone says one thing it can be portrayed as another.
The forum has rules, and unfortunately it is us mods who have to decipher them and make judgements on certain posts, sometimes not always right as there will always be misinterpretations.
Also, RE has paying advertisers. And if they see a member advertising for free they tend to get the hump. That's why we have to delete them, sorry.
@nh3wizard (and everyone else), Thanks for your posting over the years and we hope you will continue your helping of others here.

Hi, nh3wizard
... sometimes all of us get in the same position .... we are living in the free world (I believe the most of us do and I'm very sorry for the rest which do not), but that freedom is always surrounded with some rules which we have to follow and sometimes we get feeling we are not free or someone limit our freedom .... my English is not so good to express that better ... hope you understood what I mean ... like this

Re: This forum is a open discussion board.
I suppose, as NH3 said we have our off days.
Whilst I enjoy being a "Mod" it does sometimes have it's downsides. We are all volunteers here and give up our time freely. Some may say that we should "get a life" or "get out more" and maybe some days that is true.
Depending on the numbers of postings during the day it can take around two hours or more just to read them, digest them, add an answer if able to and sometimes make a decision on what could be a contentious post.
If we have time then it will be discussed between the Mods and a group decision taken. If we haven't then it is up to us as an individual to do what we think is appropriate.
On the whole I think we all do a fair job at it but we're not perfect, especially at the end of a long or bad day.
If you feel upset or hard done by then do, please, contact us by PM and we'll see if the problem can be resolved fairly.

My intentions were not to get anyone's panty's in a bunch, but just to get everyone thinking on what direction we all would like to see the site move. Hopefully I haven't offended anyone.

Re: This forum is a open discussion board.
In my opinion this site is moderated very fairly, I remember when we had to put up with the brow beating of one certain UK based engineer on pretty much every thread, thankfully those days are long gone and the whole site seems to be going very well. There will always be disagreements and posts that require a bit of attention (I have been guilty of both of these in the past) but on the whole the group of people that post here are a pretty decent bunch, I'd shout you all a beer anyday of the week.... if you made your way down under.

Re: This forum is a open discussion board.
The moderators here in my opinion work harder than any other forum I frequent.
There's more spam here, or posts in the wrong forums, posts added to the end of threads where a new one should of been started, or posts from a member complaining about how they don't know how to post, or harder to decipher posts than any other forum I've seen anywhere.
It's great that such a site can bring together all ages and nationalities to share thoughts. But that's a recipe for disaster from a moderators point of view, when people can't understand how forums work, or lack a high level education in the english language.
I give out much repect to all you moderators.

It's better to keep your mouth shut and give the impression that you're stupid than to open it and remove all doubt.

Re: This forum is a open discussion board.
It means there was always a certain person who shoved there opinions down peoples throats and wouldn't hear of any other opinions and seemed to argue for the fun of it - he was the self appointed expert on nearly any subject - marc my words . It was the reason I stopped posting here for quite some time.... until he disappeared.

Re: This forum is a open discussion board.
It should be kept in mind that a website is private property. It's like being a guest in someone's home. Your host (and his representatives) have every right to set whatever rules they want.
That said, I think this site is very user friendly, and the mods do a good job of keeping it that way.
As to commercialization, well... everyone knows I have something to sell, but I try to be subtle about it. I help a few people here and there, and every once in a while somebody looks up my profile, goes to my website and orders my products.
Seems fair to me.Last edited by Gary; 08-11-2008 at 08:52 PM.

I do like the way the someone posts an obscure question, in the wrong place as it happens, 6 months after the last one and the whole thing springs back to life.

Re: This forum is a open discussion board.
To be fair Dez, you made him a moderator and sat back when he took the pi55 out of everyone who did not meet his standards. the threat of legal action changed my mind from pushing him further at the time, but he upset a lot of people who did not have the balls to do what i did and stand up to him. i can see why there are number of his victims who are posting good riddance messages and using phrases like "karma is a bitch". i think everyone is calm but happy at the outcome, as there is no libel content involved, die o'brien you tw@.Takes a licking, keeps on ticking.
