Sabroe SMC100 Cylinder Liners

Has anyone what coating new sabroe cylinder liners have and its purpose?
The coating is black and on cylinder bore and all over.
Nothing in new box to say wash it off.

The coating is there to "Preserve" the highly machined surfaces.
If you did not protect the parts they would rust or oxidise through being exposed to the Atmosphere.

Otherwise our parts industry would have to specify "sell by dates", whereas spares can sit on a shelf indefinitely.

I have never really analysed the composition of the protective coating,
Just washed it off in a Parts washer.
Nowadays they have to be non petroleum based (PC.)
But if you are out in the bush. Petrol or any de-greaser will do!

Take care to confirm any oil ways or cavities are clear. ( If available use of compressed air helps.)
I have seen serious damage where an engineer has failed to confirm an oil way is clear.

) .Its like its anodized or treated and the only thing not coated is suction valve seat .

Now you have got me also Ranger.
If that's the case I can only suggest you contact Sabroe and ask the question.
Please let us know what the outcome is.
I have a SMC 108 rebuild in a couple of weeks, I will let you know how the spares arrive.
I think you may have had a rouge batch there.
The last time I saw " anodised" spares, was rebuilding a Grasso recip on R22 which previous engineers had been none to careful about removing air before restarts.
So everything was covered in Copperisation.
And sometimes they have an oily honey colour. But That always washes off!
