    R-22 Equipment

For those of you who read the regulations for the R-22 phase-out schedule in the United States, you probably read this:

    - 1/1/2010 : No production and no importing of HCFC-142-b and HCFC-22, execpt for use in equipment manufactured before 1/1/2010.

Now my question is: did anybody hear about a regulation that bans production of EQUIPMENT that uses R-22?

Can I still manufacture A/C systems that use R-22 in 2018 if I can use recycled R-22?

    Thx Guys!

Hi this link below explains a few things.

    http://www.epa.gov/ozone/title6/phas...2phaseout.html

You can use existing equipment upto 2020 if i read right.
If it ain't broke, it doesn't have enough features yet.

    Re: R-22 Equipment

They can't produce machines that use HCFC's.

So no....there will be no nitrogen filled R-22 compatible machines being shipped out to bypass the phase out of the refrigerant.....could you imagine the back lash.....and for what reason it's obvious HFC's are just as good and don't contain chlorine....not to mention around here R-22 is getting mighty close to the price of 410A and it's not even 2010 yet.

Parts will be available for repair of HCFC's systems depending on demand.

There is more information than you'll ever be able to get out of anyone on here on that website chunky munkey posted. Look through the whole section along with all the little links on the side.....that should keep anyone busy for several hours.

    Re: R-22 Equipment

    Thanks all for the input!

I visited the website chunky munky gave me. And in fact, the information that I got originally is from the EPA website. However, I think you guys got confused by what I meant: (Maybe I got confused by what YOU meant)

I just need to know if I can manufacture equipment in 2018 that uses R-22 without using produced or imported R-22 refrigerant in it.

Is there any regulation that states that?

    thx

Without checking your EPA Regulations my only comment would be...

You can make what you want but you can't sell it or use it.

    Re: R-22 Equipment

Brian, I got your point. But you're not really correct because there is no regulation that says: You Cannoy Sell It!

All regulations say: you cannot put new R-22 in new equipment. Which means that I can buy R-22 now (2008) and wait until 2018 to manufacture my HVAC system and use the OLD R-22 that I bought in 2008.

    Correct me if i'm wrong...

    Re: R-22 Equipment

The regulations say that,no more new r22 can be put into existing systems after jan1 2010.After 2015 no recycled r22 can be used in existing systems.

The way you have worded it,by 2018 the gas will be illegal and you cannot manufacture any new equipment for this reason.

Why would you want to do this as if you did it and your system then lost its charge, you wouldnt be able to get any more gas.

    Thats just my theory.

Just had a quick read of your EPA website and it looks as though you are correct.

    However after 2020 you can't.

Interesting discussion but I need to ask; is there a valid reason for wanting to manufacture what is basically obsolete equipment?
