    Warning - Van Breakin's

    Morning all,

Hopefully this may help someone in the OK, if it saves one engineer loosing equipment then its worked.

We have recently been haveing in East Anglia and now in the midlands a spate of Engineers vans being broken into and mobile electrical equipment being stolen. (PDA's, Sat navs, Phones etc)

The worrying thing is that each time there is NO sign of a forced entry to the vehicle. The Scene of crime officer who attending one locally to me told the engineer whos van had been broken into they suspect that the theives now have a universal remote control for door locks, a bit like a universal a/c remote and they go around throwing codes out from their car and if they hit one, the van door open and they are in and out in seconds. Can i suggest that even though it should already be good practise, that you all make sure when you get home at night you ensure you remove all youre electrical equipment from the cab.

    Regards

    Fatboy

Mind you, forgot to add this, the only place you can get into with a remote on my van is the cab.

All the rear load doors have separate keylocks fitted, it's a right pain working from it but at least you can't 'click' it open.

we have a standard spec from year to year,

    no back widows.

    full bulkhead.

slam locks to rear and side door.[maple locks]

they can get into the cab but after that its a still saw.

    never had a problem yet

just in case you were wondering, back widows are similar to windows but the female type without a husband, not in anyway a spelling mistake,

How about rig up some decoys with high voltage connected to them? (I can see it now - someone leaves what appears to be an iPod in a truck, "forgets" to lock it, and when the thief takes the iPod, he discovers that it is just a fake with parts of a disposable camera flash wired up to metal parts on the outside. Startled by the shock, the thief jumps, falls, and knocks himself out on the concrete ground.)

Hmmm now days I say no alarms just 10 pounds of MD-12 with no delay fuse, give it a year, and theft will be zero.

MD-12 has a zero re-ofend succes rate to boot!
