    Start Capacitor

    Hi

How can a Start capacitor fails in bottle cooler when
    - the relay is perfectly OK
    - Line Voltage is 230V
    - Compressor Perfectly working

    Can anyone suggests me

    Re: Start Capacitor

    Hi Guys,

I wont mention the make of the cases, but there is an issue with one fairly well known bottle cabinet manufacturer who have LG compressors on them. There is an issue with the start capacitors that fail often.
I have probably changed 20-30 of them in the last 6 months and never failed again, possibly its a bad batch.
not htat its any help in India, but for those uk based engineers we have been replacing the capacitors with 50uf 240v ones from NRS part nu 677438 and ok

    Regards

Simple like anything else wear and tear, if its blown once. If more than once wiring incorrect or the compresspr maybe faulty drawing excess amps.

If it's not a defective cap from the manufacturer, here are the common reasons for a start capacitor failure.

    • Compressor short cycling.
    • Relay contacts sticking. Does the start capacitor have a bleed resistor?
    • Incorrect capacitor.
    • Start winding staying in the circuit too long.

This is why most that I have found fail, check that start relay, are you sure it is okay?

My old boss used to put it like this:

6 starts per hr (1 every 10 mins)
    = 144 starts per day
    = 52560 starts per year
chances are the start relay ain't all it could be - change it as a precaution its only cheap compared to the compressor
...and she said "give it to me you big fridgie"
