Dryer cores
Can someone explain to me why dryer cores have to be installed with the wide hole towards the outlet of the shell. This question was asked by our apprentice and I was unable to give him a proper answer.
Kind regards,
Marty

Re: Dryer cores
Probably to give the largest area to the dirtiest side.

Re: Dryer cores
What Brian says is the main reason, it is to give the largest surface area to the area most likely to become plugged, it all so will offer the least resistance to flow as the pressure has more area to dissipate into.

Re: Dryer cores
Also do you mean fitting the taper of the hole large side faceing out.
I think you do so if you do mean fitting the core with the larger of the two sides faceing out I think it is to maximise the flow of liquid through that point.
Cheers taz.

Re: Dryer cores
Interesting question and not much information listed by the major manufacturers.
The older Sporlan pre 1983 had a outlet core retainer plate with a cone shaped spring.
========================================
Alco/Emerson states this:
"Install the new core in the outlet retainer taking care to place the end of the block with the tapered inside diameter against the outlet retainer."
But they don't give a reason why.
=======================================
Maybe they all build a block that is interchangeable with competitive products.
