Re: Tescos
Ah ha, I knew lurking about these forums would pay off one day!. Anyone know what types of controllers are found in Tesco's, do they have a favourite or is it a mixture of Tuscans at one site, CDK's, RDM's and Microm's etc at other sites?.
Any info welcome
Cheers

Re: Tescos
Older sites are generally mix of microm, woodley, elm but newer ones (less than 5 years old) are generally Danfoss akc and ekc.

Re: Tescos
It depends on many factor
Who your working with.
How far you travel
To which standard they expect them done
Whether they are empty at least 30 mins on arrival.
Whether its a fixed payment or overtime rate.
How many faulty probes and fans you change
We are payed a fixed payment,my last case clean was 8.5 hours long I ended working for less than time and a half on a Sunday.
So In most cases there not worth the money.

Re: Tescos
I think the plan was to have pairs of men doing them at night,we do them on other sites and it cuts down on call outs.well worth doing properly not the substandard that ems guys would do.

Re: Tescos
The last Major company i worked for had two large supermarket contracts.
One of them, the stores although closed at night had staff in 24/7 so case cleans could be done overnight without any problems.
The other one, Case cleans were either done early in the morning before the store opened or on Sunday mornings where the stores sont open till 10am
Either way, we were paid door to door at the appropriate rate for the hours worked.
Nice work if you can get it

Re: Tescos
with the company i work for we would have about an hour per case and about 60 for plant plus time and half for doing the work out of hours so that more than made up for any call outs you would get

Re: Tescos
Its not the case cleans in the winter that bothers people, its standing on the roof working on those poxy enviroguard packs or have some of the stores become engineer friendly on the past few years?
Cant say i miss tescos much.If it ain't broke, it doesn't have enough features yet.

Re: Tescos
Same as ever i think, Come the summer months B & Q and homebase run out of garden sprinker systems because refrigeration engineers have bought them all and are on supermarket roof's keeping the condensers cool.

Re: Tescos
the way the contract is being set up is on the basis that an ist does it now and that is being on site at 6 a.m sharp and cleaning 3 cases this is done monday to friday no exception.this may sound like easy o.t but i can tell you one thing you would soon tire off that

Re: Tescos
Stupid question time!!
What do you have to do for a 'case clean'?

Re: Tescos
Customer normally empties the case or cases. You get on site pull the whites out check for gas leaks and fan rotation, vac drains, check for iced up evaps and air ducts (defrost if required) vac and clean base and then wash clean.
Whites back in power on and full up and trading in less than two hours.
Normally empty from 0600hr to 0800hr. If you have a good store they may empty them the night before and turn them off so they are on the way to being defrosted for you when you arrive.
Cheers taz.

Re: Tescos
Thanx i thought there was some new things in the cases i`d never heard of before
The doing a couple of cases a morning is only ok if the drains dont block up for the whole island, and then its not funny.
I still think a proper clean on a sunday night is always best, plus its double time which always helps. If it ain't broke, it doesn't have enough features yet.

Re: Tescos
No-one knows who got it yet.I think some time in april so not too long to wait.
The way things are going you might not be doing just Tesco`s though so stock up on the supermarket info we are all in for a ride.If it ain't broke, it doesn't have enough features yet.

Re: Tescos
Yeah i make a lot of money but as you will find out it does not make you happy unless you are a single person.
My missus bitches with the best of them.
Any supermarket job will make you a semi rich man if you dont mind stupid hours and losing weekends in the summer.i have been doing it for 11 years now and i still feel it has served me well. There are a lot of good guys out there who are putting their all into it for little reward but we need more engineers as i still think there is a shortage, plus i want an easier life.
So please jump on board you wont regret it(at least for a couple of years anyway)
As you may well know, the summer is the busiest time and yes the turnover of engineers is at its highest, but if you are dedicated, the money is always free flowing.
The winter months are always proactive maintenance but with supermarkets they never work in the summer due to undersized equipment,so you are always guaranteed the hours.
I have re read my post and it sounds a bit negative but dont let me fool you.If you want the overtime and you want to learn something new then this is the way to go.If it ain't broke, it doesn't have enough features yet.

Re: Tescos
Get used to falling asleep 10 mins after getting home...
Get used to going back to work 1 hour later
Get used to working non stop for 24 hours straight
Get used to the sound of a pager/beeper
Get used to drinking heaps of coffee
Get used to a FAT paycheck at the end of the week
Thats "on call"...and she said "give it to me you big fridgie"

hi nh3wizard i have noticed that someone somewhere is closing down threads just when they start to get intresting i use this site for a bit light hearted banter i wish some off the moderators of this site would lighten up a bit before they disapear up there own arses as it seems they are not happy unless they answering questions on supaheats.sorry to rant but a lot of engineers use this site to find info out about other companys/engineers.

Re: Tescos
Haha
I agree with some of that but nowadays you just quote health and safety after you have worked for 4 hours and say you need 8 hours rest.
I think the best advise i was ever given with supermarkets was that when you are on standby, always volunteer to do a case clean on a sunday evening. Two reasons no1 if you dont get a lot of work in at the weekend you can bump your hours up. And no2 if you had a hard weekend you can guarantee a minimum of 6 hours rest and let the cleaners do all the work while you sleep in the canteen. If it ain't broke, it doesn't have enough features yet.

Re: Tescos
Yeah man,it ain't that bad idea....we are also humans and on top of that we got family to feed.Do you really think ,that employee X from company X should be more responsible? I doubt it.We do anything possible to keep the customer happy unlike an employee who scratches most of the time his head and is very cautious if his boss knows what he's doing at the moment.I noticed that their only concern is to work less .

Re: Tescos
There's a meeting next week with Tesco's and all the major players. Should know within a day after that who has got what.
If Space do lose out, who is big enough to fill their boots?. Who has the labour force and the resources to take on such a big slice of the pie?
Watch this SPACE.......
