Molecule size?
Does anyone know what is difference in molecule size between R22 and gases composing R410a? I heard/read somewhere that R410a has components that have molecule size smaller by 20 times than R22.

Re: Molecule size?
I can give you the molecular weight of each but can't explain what it means, sorry..
R22 86.48
R410a 72.6
(Made up of R32 79.2 and R125 120.02)

Hi Nike123

technical data on r22 r407 r410 you probably know all this anyway
Chunk. If it ain't broke, it doesn't have enough features yet.

Re: Molecule size?
Its the r32 in it that makes r410 have smaller molecules thus is why pipes and fittings must be stronger.

Half way down is r125 and r32 at the bottom of page.If it ain't broke, it doesn't have enough features yet.

Re: Molecule size?
As an aside to this, one thing with the R32 is that because it's molecular size is smaller than water is why the filter driers had to be redesigned.
The R32 would fill them up, leave no room for moisture and block the line.Brian - Newton Abbot, Devon, UK

Re: Molecule size?
I've always though its a bit like sand and gravel, the idea the the hfc refrigerants leak more than the old cfc/hcfc ones. If it is coming out one molecule at a time, no need to worry, unless its an o ring or such when one at a time over the whole o ring would add up. Most leaks are more like sand or gravel being tipped out of a truck, the size of the molecules or aggregate makes no odds as the hole is so big in relation to them.
But ive been wrong before...
