Re: mixing 404 wit 502
Why would you mix gases? Is there any justified reason to do that, except wish to do it quick and leave even quicker.

Re: mixing 404 wit 502
I was under the impression that mixing refrigerants was illegal in the US.
Its not a good idea anyway.
if its running on r502 you can top up with r408a but i didnt tell you that.

Re: mixing 404 wit 502
what he says ^
you may even get away with adding R22. R404A is not compatible with the mineral oil used in R502 systems. The ideal scenario is to recover the existing charge, fix the leak (if there is one) change the drier and recharge with R408 - not forgetting to vac out etc etc

Re: mixing 404 wit 502
Dont you have any r404a?
no you cannot mix r404 and r502 because of the oil.

Re: mixing 404 wit 502
no there isnt any other gas you can mix with 404.so ideally you need to get hold of some.

Re: mixing 404 wit 502
What are you doing with R502????
No 'topping off' ffs. Recover charge. Fix leak. Pressure leak test. Vac out. Recharge.
If you have not the skills and/or tools to do this get a profesional in.
It may not even be short of charge but have a blockage somewhere, adding refrigerant in this case will be ineffective at best and dangerous at worst.

Re: mixing 404 wit 502
First, you are trying to mix azeotrope with zeotrope refrigerant. Second, if you do that, you came up with unknown mixture of unknown properties. Factory refrigerant mixtures are precisely combined to have certain characteristic. If you change that composition you could not be sure that is going to work satisfactory and chance that you could end up with same result as non condensables are pretty high.

Re: mixing 404 wit 502
Mixing = YOU FAIL
Topping up with out fixing leak = YOU go to jail if cuaght.
Not worth it IMO.
Use proper perceduar, if you do not know proper percedure (As the question in of its self proves) Learn it, and learn it well. Long term it will bring you nothing but good.
No 'topping off' ffs. Recover charge. Fix leak. Pressure leak test. Vac out. Recharge.
If you have not the skills and/or tools to do this get a profesional in. < That advice is a damned good start!
Do it right and you'll be hareld as a hero! Do it wrong and the court jester will out rank you!
