    Another Heads-up on the F gas Regs for the UK

    .

    The following arrived today from DEFRA about the new requirements of the F gas regulations.

    I?ve posted on this subject quite a lot recently in this forum, but yet again, here?s a heads-up on the latest information.

    In short ? it?s now in UK law.

    Dear stakeholder

    This is a brief e-mail to inform you that the Fluorinated Greenhouse Gases Regulations 2008 (FGG Regulations 2008) enter into force on the 15 February 2008 and put in place offences and penalties applicable in Great Britain to infringements of the following provisions of the EC F Gas Regulation:-

    * Leakages

    * Leakage checking/leak detection systems

    * Record keeping

    * Instruction manuals

    * Recovery

    * Provision of information

    * Placing on the market prohibitions

    * Existing qualifications for personnel working on equipment

    The proposed GB Regulations were sent out for public consultation on the 18 May 2007 and the consultation ended on the 14 August 2007. A copy of the consultation summary and Government response and a final Regulatory Impact Assessment establishing the costs and benefits are available via the following link :

    http://www.defra.gov.uk/corporate/co...-gas/index.htm

    The FGG Regulations 2008 can be accessed using the following link:

    Enforcement

    Defra has been working closely with the Environment Agency, the Scottish Environment Protection Agency, LACORS (Local Authorities' Coordinators of Regulatory Services) and the devolved administrations to prepare for the implementation of a risk-based enforcement capability. As part of this approach, Defra has contracted with LACORS to set up a central team (F-Gas Support) with specialised sector knowledge to provide information products for businesses affected and offer information and training for enforcing officers . The "F-Gas Support" team services are to be provided by the environmental consultancy company "Enviros".

    Further information regarding "F-Gas Support" follow soon.

    Guidance

    Further information regarding how to comply, the main sectors affected and links to useful documentation and guidance is available at the following link:

    Next Steps

    This is a useful opportunity to flag up the fact that there are further Commission requirements to be implemented which flesh out the requirements of the EC F Gas regulation and therefore a further public consultation exercise later this year.

    This is in addition to the information from BERR's site.

    .......they are assumed to be working together on theses issues.
