R600 is no more difficult or special than any other refrigerant.

Just bare in mind that it could go pop.

I bet you have been camping and have used a stove to cook food and boil water?

We are at less risk while using it as a refrigerant than you would be trying to light it to cook.

R-600 works well for cascade cooling of the compressors and as a bridge for oil seperation, R-600a I do not know much about it first hand.

If you want to repair fridge with R600 , refill with gas , replace compressors , etc , must have an electronic refrigerant charging meter , with +/- 2g precision , because R600 quantity inside refrigeration circuit is 20 to 50 grams. Like tools , must have an Vulkan Lokring tools with accesory ( go to lokringusa.com) .
If i do not have Lokring tools with me , I make so :
A - for refill with R600
1-OPEN THE WINDOWS OF THE ROOM , because R600 is FLAMABLE !
2- cut charging pipe of compressor to purge R600
3- connect vacuum pump in circuit , and start the compressor , to extract R600 from the oil.
4- after 10 min , stop the vacuum pump and check if vacuum in stable. I repet the procedure 2 or 3 time.
5-when i have vacuum inside , i conect with brazing an service port to charging pipe .
6 - i repeat vacuum procedure and charge the fridge with R600 like in technical instructions ( inside label with technical parameter )
B replace the compressor
Is the same , but i cut compressor pipe in this situation and i replace the filter dryer .
Atention: this is practical procedure only for extreme situations.
