    Re: Exam

Usually when you discuss centrifugal compressors they are referred to as single or multiple stage. A single stage compressor only has one wheel or impeller. A multiple stage compressor has multiple wheels. Therefore, a two stage compressor would have two wheels or actual impellers in the compressor housing.
If all else fails, ask for help.

Two impellors, one in front the other, a bit like a multi stage water pump.

    .

The compressors are arranged in series, usually in a common housing; therefore the discharge gas of the first stage enters the suction of the second and so on.

They are generally very high capacity chillers, several megawatts – do a Google on Carrier 17 series open drive chillers to see some examples.

    Re: Exam

Hi Best Way to do this is Google carrier 19FA compresors as Iceman says they have double high speed impellers and have what the call Labyrynth seals between the stages, they usualy suck gas from an econimiser it mixes with the first stage gas then pumped to the condensor. If you look up 19C or 19DG they are single stage and you can compare them. Hope this explains a bit about them
