Depends on who your employer are....

At my company, if you are found out, it's a sack able offence.

    Same here.

And you won't be insured, probably not a problem for a lot of people who like to get their equipment fixed on the cheap, unless something goes wrong

..... not to mention the taxman who will tear up the floorboards once they get a suspicion of undeclared income, which is always considered fraud.

Would be a bit tricky accounting for any refrigerant used also.

I think i'd get a written warning from myself if i got caught (selfemployed)

At least if or when you do catch yourself, you could then poach the customers back by recommened your company carry out repairs.Thats unless you don,t fire yourself. Then you would have to start up a different company.

Its different now, up to a few years ago the attitude of most employers was to turn a blind eye to private jobs.
But with gas laws and insurance the situation has tightend up considerably.

    Yes.

    It's little more than theft.

Under the current new laws in the UK , it's not just the fitter who is comitting the offence, it is the owner also.

    Re: Private Jobs

I have always stayed clear of jobs on the side, for one i do it all day and i don't want to do it all night.

It wouldn't take much these days for that nice little chip shop owner who has just lost some food to telephone your boss, i'd sack you there and then?
