    Two stage vaccuum pumps

I hired a double stage vaccuum pump the other day. Ive never used one before.
To my suprise when i got it there was no switch or valve shut off chamber which isolated anything. I can only assume that the second stage takes place inside the pump and we dont have to worry about anything.
    Anyone shed any light??
