Talcum Powder, Copper Pitting?

Howdy Peoples!

Was insualting 1 5/8" suction lines today for a packing cool room. I use some baby powder to help the insulation slide onto the pipes..

My buddy tells me that he does not like to use talc powder as he has seen bad pitting on copper tubes due to the use of talc?

Has anyone heard or experienced this? Are there any other products or methods that can be used to make the job easier without talc?

Traditionally, it should be engineer's French Chalk (which is, after all, Talcum powder without the perfume and the drying agents).

I used it for years, because it was easier to get than French Chalk – you can buy it anywhere.

So long as the tubes are securely capped so that it does not get in the pipe, it's fine - it is a mild abrasive, so you don't want it in the system.

It makes threading obstinate insulation much easier, but make sure that it is not on the mating insulation surfaces if you are going to apply a vapour sealer to the joins as it will inhibit the adhesion.

If it corrodes copper pipe, what’s it going to do the baby’s bum? I think you are being wound up.....
