Reefer Refrigeration Unit Standards
Please can anyone tell me whether 380-460V 3 Phase 50/60Hz AC, is an industry standard for electrical supply to refrigeration units on reefers?
I am particularly interested to know of any standards documentation relating to the specification of refrigeration units that would be applicable in the UK.
Any assistance is gratefully received.

reefer=container with fridge unit set back into body reefer =40ft trailer with fridge mounted in front of trailer container reefers can be 380\460 50hz and 60hz trailer reefers are mainly 380\50h z

Re: Reefer Refrigeration Unit Standards
also here in the states a large portion are designed to operate on 190-240 50-60 hz as well, thru either a transformer or a switch that changes motor leads to accommodate supply voltage.

Re: Reefer Refrigeration Unit Standards
Yes the industry is as followed the US uses a 60hz ac sign wave, and eurpean else uses a 50hz sign wave.
Voltages are based on AC sign wave,
For example 460 uses a 60hz frequency sign
and 380 uses a 50hz signwave
3 phase 460 60Hz is commonly found in marine container applications along with power generation,
It is also found now in CTC vector unit here in the US.
For other transport temperature control units use lower voltage sign wave like SL,SB super II, MDII, TS units and est.
Electic motors can be rewired to accomodate any voltage.
I hope this was of help.

Re: Reefer Refrigeration Unit Standards
most units will run on 3 phase as follows (if the motors are wired for it)
460vac 60hz
380vac 50hz
230vac 60hz
190vac 50hz
there are places like Brazil and Austrailia where there is strange voltage combinations, such as
230vac 50hz or something like that
standard electric motors don't like this combination and may overheat of trip the mol

Re: Reefer Refrigeration Unit Standards
230 V 50HZ is standard voltage here in Europe.
