Horsepower needed for 20 ton icemaker

What is the horsepower requirement needed for a 20 ton ice maker . I'm looking at replacing a 10 ton ***** (R-402A) ice machine with a 20 ton ammonia unit .
Is there a formula for figuring this out ??

Re: Horsepower needed for 20 ton icemaker

there are good rule of thumbs but it depends on the ice maker brand, and the entering water temp

turbo, vogt tube ice is approx 1.5 ton per ton of ice
at -10 suction with 60 degree water .

northstar style flake is is approx 60 df water 1.3 ton per ton of ice at -25 to -30 df suction.

these numbers work very well for good ice production.

    Ta Bruce,

I have worked on a few North Stars, Model 90E's I remember working out the duty of one with a 6WB Mycom on it as we were changing the condenser, this I gave to the technical director and he used a check figure to tell me I was close enough, I now have the check figure.

    Kind Regards Andy
If you can't fix it leave it that no one else will:rolleyes:
