Hi there,
For a school assingment i need to awnser a question that i cannot find in my book or on the internet. The question is "What is the stronger filler metal in a copper to copper connection the one with 5% silver or the one with 40%" normally at my work we use the 5%.
Ofcourse because its way cheaper than the 40% but is it also stronger?

The one with the most copper.
The additives, whether silver or Phosphorous only
help the filler flow and are used when different metals
are joined together.
Plus silver is added to lower the melting point of the filler,
the idea is to melt the filler rod before the pipe itself melts
and that is why silver is added.

The answer is very simple. It is Copper!
With the right flux its easy to braze but needs good experience as the tube is also made of copper and we don't want any holes....

In practical terms the more silver.
Interestingly in Australia we use 15% silver for copper to copper & 45% copper to brass, steel etc.
5 % here would be for a plumber on a water line!
