A pipe contraction

Hi ewerybody.

Is somebody have the problem of steel pipe damage due to temperature contraction? Is there any experience with the use of temperature compensators or enough bends?

I cant find information about that.

What pipe are you using? If steel then yes.

The pipe doesn't know what's inside only the temperature.

Any components, bellows etc, check with the manufacturer.

Usually, for refrigeration is not necessary to install thermal expansion joints ... just take care to use elbows and supports to allow contraction&expansion of pipes ... also take care about branch pipes to have a possibility for free move ...

it is much more used within steam lines ... pipe contraction and expansion is much bigger ...

It is more convenient to use thermal expansion joints to reduce vibration and noise (using piston compressors) or if you have pipes passing from one building to another in active seismic areas ... like Costa Rica.

I used them three times only as in above examples ... two times within ammonia refrigeration plants (first time to avoid vibration&noise, second time in Costa Rica and third time for steam lines in UAE...

Could you give me a manufacturer of this joints and we need a calculation for pipe (contraction or increase).
What type of that joint must be for ammonia liquid and vapour?

Unfortunately, I cannot help you with manufacturer - I used those joints back in the year 2000 and earlier ... you need to search WEB by yourself ...

The best is to download brochure ... link sent by FaultCode ... and then start at page 4 .... with calculation/s ... quite simple ...

are of SS material and you can use the same type of joint both for gas or liquid ammonia .... of course with proper supports ...
