What refrigerant are we talking about, if ***** based, recover system charge , evacuate as well as find the leak. And start again with new refrigerant charge.
If ammonia, do a high side purge , then find the leak and repair, because the problem will only re-occur.
OR buy an automatic air purger. Please note that the water vapor will stay mixed with the ammonia and will not be purged. Water in the system is not good to the plant. There is also automatic machines to remove water from the system.
do the job properly there is no skirting the proper procedure! recover the charge, do a pressure and vacuum test to locate the leak, recharge the origional gass in. check it again don, the better you are at it faster it will go!
Big or small system? What kind of compressor? With service valves on the compressor itselves?
