does anyone have a system that heats efficiently in arctic conditions,doesnt defrost every 5 minutes and doesnt spin the wheel off the electric meters.and also provide lots of hot water for for the kids to leave taps running
is it designers/consultants who do not account for the extreme weather conditions or are they unsuitable in the uk? as for scotland!!! should i wait 8years for global warming to increase the capacity.
The problem with altherma and ecodan is that they are more or less just adapted a/c units and due to the evap coil fin spacing require regular defrosts in low ambient due to icing ,
But with regard to efficiency in low temps it shouldn't be that much of a issue for specific machines.
I've been doing some work on Danfoss and Nibe heatpumps for a couple of years now and although the efficiency drops off in extremely cold weather they don't suffer half as much as the a/c brands.
After all the Scandinavians have been doing it for years and their weather is pretty rough in winter.

we are currentley installing a mitsi heavy ind system we already have one in and it has worked well the fin spaceing is wide on condensor and works well they are very limited to range we have also fitted sanyo co2 systems but the 410 systems seem better
We install both Daikin and Ecodan units, we design the systems to operate at lower ambient temperatures than most. I admit that they will be at their most inefficient in the real colds periods but that is to be expected. Their overall efficiency cross the year is what really counts. All of our installations are working perfectly with all clients having warm homes and we are talking of installations in Derbyshire, Cheshire and North Wales. We have had an instance where frosting of the heat exchanger has occurred but that was at an ambient temp of approximately 6 degrees c and the air was very moist, the defrost took care of it. We have not had this problem at cold temps.
good to hear that it does work, it seems though a customer is either gonna get a good system that works trouble free or theyre gonna have heaps of earache stress,costs to rectify systems. this could be the next rogue traders!
