Mainly brass, but have seen some steel ones (nuts).

mitsi reducers are brass flare nuts with a smaller diameter hole.
daikin reducers on bs boxes /refnets are copper stubs-ideal for weighing in?

just seemed an unusual question for a guru like yourself
Complements everyone likes, myself included.
I was just doubting myself that's all, somewhere in the Grey cells there is still something nagging me.
With regard to Gun metal being used in some form or another?
It may not even be a fridge application that the "Gun Metal" is applicable to.
There again it may be an alternative when Ammonia is the choice of refrigerant.
Anyway it really bugging me, so if anyone can add anything?

ive seen gun metal flare nuts on old r12 condensing units-might have been cheap alloy-thats when insulation was that cork tape wrapped round the suction line and copper clips on planks to support pipework!-20yr ago
