installing elbows in split ac connecting pipes
hi
i saw split unit ac
but the connecting pipes between indoor and outdoor unit are strange
the technicians add elbows to the pipes to decorating the exterior of the building
the image will explain more
Attachment 10174
Attachment 10175
as i know the elbow will decrease the pressure of the refrigerant then increase load on the compressor
then decrease the refrigeration effect
im right or not ????????
Re: installing elbows in split ac connecting pipes
why is the pipework coiled up before the condenser...
Re: installing elbows in split ac connecting pipes
The pipe is most likly coiled up because it was pre flared coils
As for the elbows they are more than likely formed bends purely for neatness.
How would you propose to do it without bending the pipe??
providing the bends are done right and the diameter of the pipe is not significantly reduced the restrictions are minimal and so is the effect it has on performance.
Cheers
Stu

Re: installing elbows in split ac connecting pipes
As long as the total equivalent pipe length is still within the manufacturer's design spec, it shouldn't affect the operation of the system.
I can't tell for sure from the photos if the evap. is below the condenser. But if it is, perhaps the pig tail is there to act as an oil trap.
Re: installing elbows in split ac connecting pipes
Won't make any noticable difference, just think how many u bends there are in the condenser and evaporator to get five elbows in the interconnection pipe work into perspective.
