Refrigeration Engineer Qualifications
Hello all,
My company is in the process of setting up a HVAC division and I have been asked to find out some information. I hope this is the right place to find some help on this. We need to know what the minimum lawful qualifications are for a Refrigeration Engineer, and what the 'best practice' qualifications are, so that we know what to look for when interveiwing applicants.
Hope you can offer some assistance on this
Regards
Daniel Lilley

Re: Fridge Qualifications
Safe Handling of Refrigerants (C&G 2078)
City and Guilds to Level 3 (now replaced by NVQ III in either Refrigeration or Air Conditioning)
Depends on the type of work, and most importantly experience.
Re: Fridge Qualifications
No! It is "OOPS!" Now you have to fix that! You are well on your way now.
Re: Fridge Qualifications
You now need at least City & Guilds 2078 Refrigerant Handling Certificate or CITB equivalent as from the 10th July 2006 if you are new to the industry or untill April 2007 if you are already in the industry. This is new legislation just introduced.
Re: Fridge Qualifications
that and willingness to actully work, be any good, know the job, ect, best of luck because i cant find anyone !!!
Re: Fridge Qualifications
What about hydrocarbons, CO2 and ammonia? I know we run courses for HC and CO2 otherwise we won't sell it to people, not sure where the law stands on it though. Ammonia training is a bit harder to come by I think, Polar Pumps in Doncaster are one provider and have a training rig, otherwise you'd need your own ammonnia plant to do the practical side.
Re: Fridge Qualifications
johnny rod; u come from Scumthorpe?
Re: Fridge Qualifications
Living there for the past few years, yep.
Re: Fridge Qualifications
Well everyone else have covered the minimum legal requirement. However, if you are unfamiliar with the trade and you employ one of the more "colourful" engineers available they will run rings around you.
No one bends a time sheet or works a flanker better than a fridge engineer that isn't managed by someone who knows the trade.
Good Luck
