Re: Johnson Controls HELP
Sorry budy, we need a bit more info...
How many terminals do you have and which ones are active at which setting?
In other words...
Cool - terms 1 and 2 linked
DZ - 1, 2, 3 open
Heat - 2 and 3 linked
Or something similar.
Cheers
Re: Johnson Controls HELP
Ok, its an old johnson controller, it has Penn on the front cover.
There are 6 terminals, the bottom two are the commons,
Gotta have power to the compressor in cooling mode, nothing to either comp or reversing valve in dead zone and power to both in heating mode. You turn the setpoint knob to get to each mode.
I was ready to kick the crap old thermostat off its bracket
Teacher wont just show me how its wired, (i am at college) I am gonna ring one of the techs during college and have them tell me how to do it over the phone. (Unless somone here tells me how to do it) I was ready to deck the teach, i was so frustrated.
What is it with tech teachers?

What about doing a search on the Johnson Controls site and downloading the info on this controller:)
probably wiser than kicking ten bells out of the instructor:D
Go forth and learn the experience will do you good some night you have been called out at 3 in the morning:)
Kind Regards Andy:)
Re: Johnson Controls HELP
Hi Mad
I thought you were going back to tech college with a new "learning" attitude.
Getting the answers for free won't teach you much at all.
Get down to the library or search the manufacturers web sites for info - oh, and order up some CHILL PILLS while you're at it :D
Learning takes time, and patience (a logical way of thinking always helps as well)
Is this the one? http://cgproducts.johnsoncontrols.co...DF/2497165.PDF
Re: Johnson Controls HELP
G'day Mad Apprentice.
Which unit are you working on. Petes a **** like that. smart dude but. Is it the APAC unit?
One of them has a time delay. But u can bypass the delay by shorting the jumper pins on the circuit board.
It Took us a while to work the bloody thing out too. I'm pretty sure it will be missing a link wire. 1-4 I think.
You guys only have a week to go no?
Regards
DOGMA
Say Hi to Brendon from Orfords if he's in your class.

MadApprentice
howdy mate , here is a vital clue for the unit you are working on.
easy way to find the circut on the thermostat is to disconnect all cables , from it , turn it on , now check the voltages at each of the six terminals , in heating cooling , the bottom 2 are always 240v
a big clue is 1 of these terminals has 52v instead of 240
the 52v terminal is the dead zone terminal , from there you will have to put a bridge in to call for power.
good luck champ. Go the temperzone
Dogma 2 wks to go champ , we'll be at the races telling stories in no time.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if you disconnect all cables - where is the voltage coming from?????

Sorry frank
the power comes straight from the mains , to a push button isolation switch , to the thermostat , the cables from the thermostat then run to the unit.
So virtually you can isolate the unit while still having power go to the stat.
By the way MAD , what group are you in A, B, C
Re: Johnson Controls HELP
Hey all, sorry bout not updating my progress, i worked it out.... kind of.
I have all my pracs signed off now, just got a couple of exams to go!!! The temperzone was a prick, the apac was easy to work out. (did it in 5 minutes)
Thanks forthe help all!
